70/70 HOROVITZ PROJECT

(a world wide, year-long event celebrating Israel Horovitz's 70th Birthday with 70 of his plays)

As Organizer and Executive Producer, the Barefoot Theatre Company leads over 50 theater companies from around the globe including: France, Italy, Greece, Czech Republic, Scandinavia, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Korea, Romania, Australia, Argentina, and the United States of America with readings, staged readings and fully staged productions of 70 plays by award winning playwright Israel Horovitz.

March 31st

Opening of the festival on Horovitz's 70thbirthday, Tuesday, March 31,2009 at the Bleecker Street Theatre as Jo Bonney directs a readingof his full length play, Sins of theMother feauring Bobby Cannavale, John Doman, Francisco Solorzanoand Michael Stuhlbarg.  Project #1 Completed!


April

Mid-East Pieces (in) Process: Security, A Mother's Love,& Beirut Rocks and the world premiere of What StrongFences Make.  Theworkshop culminated with a presentation at the Bleecker Street Theatre (admission:$10) on Wednesday, April 15th & on Friday, April 17th at IONA Collegein New Rochelle(free admission). Directed by MichaelLoPorto featuring Barefoot castmembers who originated the roles in all three plays.   Project #2 completed. 

 

May

Lynn Cohen (Spielberg’sMunich, Sex and the City) will star opposite real life husband Ron Cohen,in a reading of one of Horovitz's earlier short plays, Acrobats paired with one of hislatest, The Marriage Play - presentedat The American Ballroom Theater Company on Saturday, May 9th in afestive evening of ballroom dancing, drinks & a silent auction.  Admission: suggested donation . 

FREE Open Rehearsals of Horovitz's drama The Widow's Blind Date will also bescheduled at the Stella Adler Studio Theatre. 

Barefoot Theatre Co. & Gloucester Stage Co. collaborateon WhatStrong Fences Make, Horovitz’s newest short, at the 11thannual Boston Theatre Marathon.  IsraelHorovitz directs his short play featuring Francisco Solorzano

 

June

The CherryLane Theatrehosts the Barefoot Theatre Companyin reading of Unexpected Tenderness,North Shore Fish, Captains and Courage and Barking Sharks and TheWidow’s Blind Date on five consecutive Mondays. Admission: suggested donation .

 

July

Barefoot Theatre Company goes West for readings of classic & recent plays at prominent theatre venues in Hollywood, CA.

September/October

Barefoot Theatre Company celebrates its 10th Anniversary with a brunch open to the public with theatre companies from all over New York City coming together.  

FREE readings of The Indian Wants the Bronx, Hopscotch,The 75thShooting Gallery & Rats.

FREE reading of Horovitz's earliershort plays such as the Honest-to-God Schnozzola at a sitespecific location.  

FREE evening of Poetry by Israel Horovitzwill be read at a prominent NYC poetry club.  

November

Theater For The New City presents the Barefoot Theatre Company with the fully staged production of 6 Hotels which includes: NYIT Awardnominated The Hotel Play; brand new plays: 2nd Violin,Speaking of Tushy, Fiddleheads & Lovers; and Fat Guy Gets The Girl.  Admission:$18.    

December

During the Holiday Season, The Horse Trade Theatrer Group willpresents the Barefoot Theatre Companywith the fully staged production of Horovitz's adaptation of A Christmas Carol: Scrooge & Marley. Admission: $18 along with FREE readings ofplays such as Morning, The P-Word, CatLady & more during offnights.  

February, 2010

FREE Open Rehearsals - Barefoot's rehearsal of Henry Lumper presented at Brooklyn College.

March, 2010

The New York City Off-Broadway Premiere of Henry Lumper featuring the Barefoot Theatre Co.

CLOSING EVENT: March31, 2010, FREE event will culminate with the screening of a film documentingthis year-long event.  The film will beput together by Horovitz's youngest son, OliverHorovitz.  The evening will also include a reading & live music,as well as food & drinks.  A theatre Birthday Celebration toremember!!!!!!!

Collections of Israel Horovitz's plays, courtesy of Smith & Krauss, Samuel French Play Publishers & Dramatist Play Service will be available at all events for purchase.
